The Whent NZ

More than 90% of plastic does not get recycled; it’s building up in our landfills, it’s polluting our waterways, polluting our foreshore and our oceans. To help stop the plastic tide, we encourage reuse of our bottles by refilling as much as possible and as with all aluminium, our cans are 100% recyclable.

Following the success of the Whent’s, can and bottled water in Europe, we’ve brought the model to Aotearoa.

Reducing plastic bottles is important for several reasons:

  • Environmental Impact: Plastic bottles contribute to the growing problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and landfills. Plastic waste is harmful to wildlife, ecosystems, and human health.

  • Resource Conservation: The production of plastic bottles requires large amounts of fossil fuels and water. By reducing the use of plastic bottles, we can conserve these resources and reduce our carbon footprint.

  • Cost Savings: By reducing the use of plastic bottles, we can save money on the production and disposal of these items. This can translate to cost savings for individuals, businesses, and governments.

  • Public Health: Plastic bottles can contain harmful chemicals that can leach into the water or beverages they hold. By reducing the use of plastic bottles, we can reduce the risk of exposure to these chemicals.

Reducing plastic bottles is a simple and effective way to reduce our impact on the environment, conserve resources, and improve public health.

Dealing with the global plastic problem

We’re now concentrating all new product development on reusable items that are also plastic-free, so providing more sustainable alternatives to high volume plastic products.

Single-use culture has gripped the world and it isn’t feasible to continue producing these vast quantities of products in the hope that they might be recycled at the end – whatever they’re made of. Recycling is beneficial, of course, however it is not a solution. The solution is to use less in the first place or preferably use nothing at all, creating less waste & less pollution; from food, clothing, automotive, household goods, single-use coffee cups – everything.

Did you know that, globally, humans produce 1.2 million plastic plastic bottles per minute?

Reusable products will always be the better option and manufacturers need to urgently start designing more sustainable options to provide consumers with plastic-free options - after all, you can only buy what is actually on being offered.

At The Whent, the focus isn’t about how many products you can produce. It’s on how you can produce the fewest items and promote the culture of re-use.
